Quartz collection was inspired by the geometry of computer-aided design. It also reflects a fascination with the Japanese art of origami and with the qualities of paper itself - its' weightlessness, fragility and translucency.
The forms were designed with the help of modelling software and subsequently transformed into paper prototypes. They were 'unfolded' into separate, flat parts and re-assembled into real-size paper models in a manner that could be compared to constructing a '3D puzzle'. These models were then used to make plaster moulds to cast the final porcelain pieces.
